The
beginning of the Stone Age in the United Arab Emirates
is still not clear. The present evidence indicates that
at least since the sixth millennium BC the settlers of
the U.A.E were fishermen, herders and farmers. During
the al Ubaid Period (5th millennium BC) they were in contact
with Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). Small collections of imported
pottery originated in southern Mesopotamia were discovered
in various sites along   the
western and southern coast of the Gulf. Pottery of the
al Ubaid type was not found inland although a number of
sites related to this culture were discovered. The most
common flint artefacts were bifacial foliates and tanged
arrowheads |
