The
City of Al Ain is the capital of the Eastern Region
of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Its location between the
Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, made it a caravan
post link for five thousands years at least. Several
archaeological sites dating from the Stone Age, the
Bronze Age and the Iron Age have been discovered. Due
to this remote past Al Ain was selected for the location
of the museum. The old oasis of Al Ain and the old nearby
fort which goes back to the reign of the late Sheikh
Sultan bin Zayed, the president's father, were chosen
as the location for the museum.
From a group of small villages only thirty years ago,
Al Ain has grown to become one of the most beautiful
cities in the Gulf. Today, it is called the Garden City
of the Gulf. Indeed, it deserves the second prize that
has won in the world wide city competition in 1998.
The museum is located in the city centre and can be
reached easily. The streets are sign posted and the
museum is indicated. |
