Old Falaj

Falaj is a local word for an underground irrigation system. The city of Al Ain is famous in this system which goes back to 3000 years ago at least. The most recent discovery in this respect is an old falaj located in the city adjacent to the main university building from the south. A mosque associated to the falaj was also discovered. Excavations are still going on and a tentative date in the 9th-10th century AD has been given.
