To the north of Jebel Hafit and
along its eastern foothills there are hundreds of stone
cairns. The best-preserved ones are those located along
the above-mentioned foothills, to the west of the village
of Mazyed some 20 Km to the south of the city. These cairns
represent the most ancient above ground tombs in the region.
They are single chamber tombs with one entrance, usually
facing south.
