3rd
Mill. BC. Settlements
|
The Umm an Nar Culture
covers the second half of the 3rd millennium BC and
represented by several settlement sites, as well as,
monumental collective tombs. Evidence, however, indicate
that the beginning of this culture goes back as early
as 2700 BC.
Although the displayed materials belong only to three
different sites (Hili, Umm an-Nar and Ajman) the last
decade and a half witnessed the discovery of more
evidence for this culture in other areas in the U.A.E.
The settlement site designated as Hili 8 is one of
the most ancient habitation sites from the Umm an-Nar
culture. The site itself is a stronghold building
in a shape of a circle surrounded by a moat and has
a well in the centre. Types of pottery discovered
at the site are displayed together, with a black and
white photo of the site. Other finds are rare but
provide very important evidence of settled life, a
life that witnessed thecultivation of wheat, barley
and sorghum in addition to palm trees. |
